VISITING TIRTA EMPUL TEMPLE, THE GOD OF WATER

Tirta Empul Temple is a temple that was built in 926 AD during the Warmadewa dynasty, making it one of the most ancient temples in Bali. This temple was said to be built as an offering to the God of Water, Vishnu. This temple is one of the island's most revered Hindu temples and a significant spiritual destination.

Activities and Attractions In Tirta Empul Temple

The temple adjacent to the Tampaksiring Presidential Palace is famous for its holy water, the Tirta Empul Bathing Shower, which consists of 14 showers where Balinese Hindus seek purification, no wonder the name Tirta Empul means spring or holy water source.

This holy water is believed to hold potent healing properties, central to purification rituals like the Melukat Ceremony. Where participants immerse themselves in a spiritual journey to cleanse their soul, mind, and body.

Tirta Empul Temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the god of water, and is celebrated for its sacred spring, and trust can help cleansing and renewing spiritual. If you want to enter the Tirta Empul Temple, a tourist must wear a yellow cloth and shawl, both for women and men. This shawl is free of charge, and visitors are welcome to donate voluntarily.

After buying a ticket, visitors are directed to the shawl wearing place right before the entrance. In front of the shawl collection point, there is a large courtyard and a big tree that makes this place so cool, and many visitors take photos at this location while queuing to get a shawl.

Here are the activities the tourist can do in this temple:

1. Taking pictures in front of the temple and prayer room

From the entrance of this temple, we will see a gazebo where visitors rest because of the heat. There is a large temple in this area, but it is not open to the public. However, we can take pictures in front of the entrance. We can also take some photos in front of the worship altar of Tirta Empul Temple, of course, by asking permission first from the officer there.

2. Enjoying Tampaksiring Presidential Palace

There is a presidential palace in this holy water tourist spot in Bali City. The location is turn left from the entrance. We will see a building that is located higher, namely Tampaksiring Palace, which was built after the independence period by President Soekarno in the 1950s. Formerly opened to tourists freely, but then President Jokowi often visited this place, finally officially closed to the public.

The location is right next to the Tirta Empul bathhouse. Although it is closed, please don't be sad. We can still take pictures on the stairs, which are Instagramable and indeed unique for taking photos.

3. Tirta Empul Bathing Pool

Straight from the gazebo this is the icon of the tourist attractions in this place, namely the Tirta Empul bathing pool, which consists of 14 showers and is divided into two pools. Each shower is believed to provide different benefits. Visitors who want to bathe can rent clothes near this bathhouse. This holy water tourist spot in Bali City was not so crowded when I visited it.

In this pool, visitors are prohibited from using soap and shampoo. Visitors who want to bathe must queue from the first shower because they have to bathe in the shower in order. There is one shower and shower number 9 must be skipped.

4. Enjoying the Tirta Empul Temple Complex and Seeing the Water Source

From Tirta Empul, we can directly enter the temple and Tirta Empul spring. Women who enter this area must tie their hair, but no strands, the rule is like that.

In this area, we will see several temples no longer used and the Tirta Empul spring, which is said never to dry. It is said that King Batara Indra created this spring as an antidote to the poison spread by Mayadenawa.

5. Tirta Empul Temple Fish Pond

In this tourist area, there is also a fairly large fish pond that tourists located near the exit can enjoy, so before leaving, take the time to sit sweetly under the tree next to this fish pond and enjoy some colorful fish ranging from small to large fish as big as an adult's thigh.
