The Uniqueness of Sasak Sade Village

1. House Shape

The village is a small one with unique houses. The roofs are made of palm fiber, the walls are made of bamboo, and the floor is still covered with clay. Sasak Sade villagers call the house a bale.

According to the guide, there are several bales in Sade, each with its own function. Bale Kodong is a special bale for newly married couples before they build a bigger house.

Bale Berugak is used to receive guests or as a gathering place for villagers to relax or just chat. It is also a meeting place for weddings, circumcisions, and problem-solving. There is also the name Bale Lumbung, which functions to store rice.

Bale Tani is a bale used for living. This bale is divided into two parts, the inner part is used for female family members and is used for cooking, while the outer part is used for male family members and serves to receive guests.

2. House' doors

One of the unique things about this village is the houses' doors, which are smaller than usual. According to local belief, the doors are deliberately built short, so the guests who enter must bow their heads and bodies to show their respects to the house owner. Besides, each house has only one door for entry and exit, and in front of it, there are three steps that represent birth, development, and death.

3. Cleaning the House with Buffalo Dung

Another uniqueness of Sasak Sade Village, a Traditional Village in Lombok City, is that the residents clean the floor of their houses using buffalo dung mixed with a little water. This dirt is considered to make the room warmer and repel mosquitoes. The residents clean the house twice a week in accordance with ancient tradition.

4. Weaving and Farming Activities

Weaving is one of the activities of women in this village. In addition, there is also the activity of spinning yarn. They learn to weave from the age of ten. It is said that women who cannot weave are not allowed to get married, so weaving is a very valuable activity for women in Sasak Sade Village.

The weavings are sold in the village and to several souvenir sales galleries in Lombok. In addition to weaving, this village's source of livelihood is farming, namely rice and vegetables.

Don't forget if you come here to buy the weaving of these great women. The fabric is smooth and cool on the skin, and it's a form of our concern to preserve and promote weaving crafts from Sasak Sade Village, a Traditional Village in Lombok City. I bought several, and I loved it.

5. Marriage Tradition

If a man loves a woman, he will kidnap her at night and return her in the morning or after a few days. It is a romantic way for a man to propose to the woman he loves.

But if the woman does not love him, it is a misfortune because she cannot refuse the proposal. If she refuses, then it will be bad for her, and no more men will marry her.

After approximately one hour around this beautiful village, we finally had to say goodbye and continue our next trip. See you, Sasak Sade. Have you visited this traditional village? If so, please share your experience visiting this beautiful and unique village.
