Staying Experience at Grand Sovia, a Comfortable Hotel in Front of Bandung Station
I have tried many hotels around Bandung Station. One of them is Grand Sovia Bandung. I have stayed at this comfortable hotel three times, opposite Bandung Station. Besides its strategic location right in front of Bandung Station, this affordable hotel also offers comfort to its guests, no wonder I have tried it three times.
The last time I stayed at this comfortable hotel in front of Bandung Station, the atmosphere was still the same. I was on a short trip on a weekday, so when I booked this hotel, it was still available at an affordable price, even though it was a last-minute business trip; however, room availability was limited. Based on my previous experience, this hotel is often fully booked, probably because of its very strategic location.
When I last stayed there, I booked a Superior Queen Bed room with breakfast. The room is about 16 square meters and pretty comfortable for two people. There is an option with or without breakfast.
The room atmosphere is still fragrant, clean, and comfortable. The AC works very well, the amenities are complete, the bed is clean without stains and smells good. The tap water flows strongly, and the water heater works well. The door, lights, and TV all functioned well. There was a chair and a desk, but they were small and uncomfortable for long periods.
I got a room near the corner, far from the elevator. I was happy because there weren't many people passing by, so I wasn't disturbed when people entered and exited the room. However, it was close to the emergency staircase. This is not a problem because rarely does anyone go through the emergency door. The positive thing is that if there is a particular case, God forbid, it is very easy to go down the emergency stairs.
I always get a room on the top floor. Again, I like it because it is far from the hustle and bustle of guests on the lower floors or the sound of vehicles. In addition, this floor is very close to the swimming pool. It's perfect for working from a hotel like I do.
One of the things I like about this hotel is the dining area, which I find comfortable. The second time I visited, it was still a non-smoking area, and the third time, a special smoking area had been provided. The restaurant area opens at 7 a.m. and is immediately cleaned and closed at 10 a.m.
The downside is that the menu isn't extensive or varied, and the restaurant area doesn't close after breakfast. I often find that the restaurant stays open at other hotels, but it usually only serves lunch or dinner.
So guests cannot relax in the restaurant area after 10 a.m. or after it has been cleaned. Next to the restaurant, there is also a burger shop, a partner of the hotel, next to the restaurant where you can buy food from the door.
This comfortable hotel has a small parking area that is quite a walk from the hotel. The parking area is located separately from the hotel, about 100 meters away.
One of the advantages of this comfortable hotel in front of Bandung Station is that it has a swimming pool on the rooftop. It is not very large and is only 1.25 meters deep. It is open from around 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You are free to swim during those hours, and a lifeguard on duty will help you if you need anything. The swimming pool area also has a children's pool, which is not very large.
There are comfortable hanging chairs, showers, and changing rooms after swimming. There is also a room with chairs and tables for guests who want to see the view of Bandung from above, or want to work while waiting for their loved ones or children to swim.
Swim in the morning when the sun has not yet risen. From my experience, by around 8:30 a.m., the air is already hot because the swimming pool area has no roof and is entirely open. So you can see the view of the city of Bandung freely.
Unfortunately, this swimming pool is not open 24 hours or in the late afternoon, even though it would be wonderful to swim while enjoying the city of Bandung in the late afternoon and watching the sunset. Due to considerations such as safety and the workforce, this hotel is only open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
My thoughts
I like this comfortable hotel opposite Bandung Station, so I have tried it thrice. It is clean, comfortable, quiet, has a rooftop swimming pool, a cosy restaurant (though the food options are limited), is strategically located, and has many culinary options around the hotel. Most importantly, it is very close to the station, right in front of it.
