Tidung Island, in the Thousand Islands, offers a peaceful atmosphere, expansive blue seas, and an iconic bridge that captivates visitors. This island is a favourite destination for tourists around Jakarta seeking tranquillity, natural beauty, and light adventure without having to travel far, from snorkelling to cycling along the coast.
I last visited Tidung Island around 2012. Every corner of Tidung Island offers a simple yet memorable vacation experience, along with a variety of exciting activities for families and friends to enjoy during your stay. In the past, facilities were minimal, but now this beautiful island has adequate access and comfortable facilities.
Discover Exciting Tidung Island Activities
There are many exciting activities tourists can do when visiting Tidung Island, as I did some time ago.
1. Banana Boat Riding
The next exciting activity is banana boat riding. Perfect for those who want to get their adrenaline pumping while having fun, banana boat riding is the right choice. This activity is done in groups, adding to the excitement. At that time, there were eight of us so that we could fit on one boat.
When the boat speeds up and turns, participants must maintain their balance to avoid falling into the water. Although it looks challenging, this activity is still safe because it is equipped with life jackets and experienced guides. However, if you're easily panicked, I suggest you don't try it.
2. Camping on the Beach
For a closer encounter with nature, camping on Tidung Island's beach is an exciting activity. Tourists can set up tents and spend the night while enjoying the sound of the waves. The nights on the island are very peaceful, with a starry sky that is rarely seen in big cities. However, make sure the tide is not too high that night.
3. Cycling Around the Island
Another exciting activity you can do on Tidung Island is cycling around the island. One of the most enjoyable ways to explore Tidung Island is by bicycle. There are bicycle rentals at various points on the island so tourists can ride along the small coastal roads.
This activity is not only fun but also gives you the freedom to enjoy the island's beauty from various angles, including the friendly, beautiful residential areas. It will definitely be an unforgettable experience.
4. Enjoying Sunset and Sunrise at the End of the Bridge of Love
Watching the sun set or rise at the end of the Bridge of Love is one of my favourite experiences. The sky slowly changes from orange to purple, creating a romantic, peaceful atmosphere. Many tourists sit back, relax, take photos, or spend time with their loved ones as they watch the sun go down.
Or you can also choose accommodation facing the sea and watch the sunrise in the morning, as I did yesterday, staying at a resort with a sea view. I will write about the resort in my next article.
5. Evening BBQ with a Group
After a day of activities, ending the day with an evening BBQ is the perfect choice. Many tour packages offer grilling facilities, featuring fresh fish, squid, and shrimp. The sense of togetherness and the delicious food make the night feel warm and enjoyable, especially when shared with family and loved ones.
6. Fishing at the Locals' Favourite Spot
For those who enjoy fishing, Tidung Island has several popular fishing spots. Tourists can bring their own equipment or rent it on site. While waiting for the fish to bite, you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the sea, accompanied by a gentle breeze and soothing views of the surroundings. It's definitely more fun.
7. Jet Skiing in the Open Sea
When I first came here in 2012, this exciting activity was not yet available. Now, there are many jet ski offers on Tidung Island. For those of you who have never tried it, you should give jet skiing a try. Perfect for tourists who enjoy high-speed activities, jet skiing is an exciting choice not to be missed.
Riding a jet ski on the blue sea surface provides a sense of freedom and extraordinary adventure. Besides getting your adrenaline pumping, you can also enjoy the vast panorama of the calm sea while capturing exciting moments during the ride.
8. Kayaking Along the Coast
Kayaking has also recently emerged and is now widely offered as one of the exciting activities on Tidung Island. It is suitable for those who want to enjoy the sea atmosphere in a more relaxed way. Using a kayak, you can paddle slowly along the coast while enjoying the sound of small waves. The relatively calm waters around Tidung Island make this activity safe and very suitable for all ages, including beginners.
9. Snorkelling
Snorkelling is a favourite activity for many tourists visiting Tidung Island, including me. It is safe for beginners and supported by relatively calm waters. The waters around Tidung Island are home to coral reefs, colourful fish, and a stunning underwater world. With its spotless and clear water, it is very suitable for snorkelling for beginners and experienced snorkelers alike.
10. Walking Across the Love Bridge
The Love Bridge is the main icon of Tidung Island, and you must visit it. The last time I was here, the bridge was still relatively simple, but when I visited recently, it was very neatly arranged. This bridge, which spans hundreds of meters, offers a stunning view of the blue sea and a soothing breeze.
Many tourists stroll, cycle, or take selfies here, as there are now several very Instagrammable photo spots. In the morning, the atmosphere is quiet and perfect for enjoying the fresh air. In the afternoon, this bridge is the best place to watch the sky change colours as the sun sets. I came at night, and the atmosphere was vivacious with many colourful lights along the path.
