It is mandatory to prepare everything, especially about safety matters.

The Seven Summit of Indonesia

Here are the seven summit of Indonesia that you have to know.

1. Mount Bukit Raya - 2,278 Meters Above Sea Level

Mount Bukit Raya is also known as Puncak Rajawali or Puncak Kakam. The highest mountain on the island of Borneo has the most comfortable route because the road to it is not uphill or downhill. The road is gentle but quite long. Climbers will pass through a very dense moss tree a few hundred meters before heading to the top. Although the path looks relatively straightforward, climbers must be careful not to choose the wrong path.

The climbers take about 6 days for a normal climb. But at that time, my friends and I only needed 4 days. Because we also cut the road using a motorcycle to Post 2 Korong Hape from the base camp, it was not bad to cut travel time by 1 day.

Uniquely, this mountain, which is the lowest in height among the Seven Summit Indonesia mountains, has a peak that is different from other mountain peaks. The peak is flat, about 10 meters wide, and surrounded by shady trees.

The excitement again, before heading to Mount Bukit Raya's base camp, the climbers will make a road trip of about 9 hours from Pontianak City and pass the river route for about 6 hours if the water conditions are normal. Unfortunately, our trip was during the dry season, so it took 13 hours from the pier to the base came awe inspiring journey.

2. Mount Binaiya - 3,027 Meters Above Sea Level

Mount Binaiya is the highest mountain in the Maluku Islands. It is located in Manusela National Park, precisely on Seram Island. This mountain, which is a Karst mountain range, has a varied ecosystem ranging from swamp forest, beach, montane rainforest, and sub-alpine forest.

To climb this mountain, you can go through the Kanikeh Village route from the north and the Piliana Village route from the south. Don't forget to consider the requirements for entering this national park in Masohi City first. Prepare yourself physically and mentally to climb this mountain which takes 8-12 days, to stay fit.

3. Mount Latimojong - 3,443 Meters Above Sea Level

Mount Latimojong is the fifth-highest mountain in Indonesia and represents Sulawesi Island. When I visited it in 2013, it was still relatively quiet. Only our group of about 10 people, plus guides and porters, were there.

Maybe because the distance is quite far, vehicles to the base camp are still rare, and the path is still difficult. As far as I know, the government has not managed it well enough at that time, so getting information to visit there is still quite difficult. So, this mountain is still very rarely visited.

4. Mount Semeru - 3,676 Meters Above Sea Level

This mountain, famous for the movie 5 CM, is the highest mountain on the island of Java and the highest volcano that is still active. The mountain, which is also known as Puncak Mahameru, has Ranu Kumbolo Lake, which is very famous for its beauty.

In addition, Mount Mahameru is also famous for its beautiful park, Oro-oro Ombo. The Teletubbies park is a favorite of climbers. To climb the mountain managed by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), climbers can take the Ranu Pane route or the Ayek-ayek route.

5. Mount Rinjani - 3,726 Meters Above Sea Level

This is the highest mountain in Lesser Sunda Island, which consists of Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Nusa Tenggara. The mountain, located in Lombok, East Nusa Tenggara, is the second active mountain in Indonesia's seven-summit mountain range.

mount rinjani

To climb this mountain with a beautiful panorama, you can register for a climb by using the Rinjani application. Mount Rinjani is managed by the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR).

When viewed from the Rinjani application, it has six climbing routes, the most popular of which is Sembalun Lane (East Lombok). The Second Senaru Lane (North Lombok), the third Air Berik Lane (Central Lombok), Timbanuh Lane (Timbanuh Lombok), the fifth Tete Batu Lane (East Lombok), and finally Torean Lane (North Lombok) are the most exotic routes because they have a beautiful view.

Mount Rinjani is also famous for its beautiful lake, Segara Anak. Climbers can watch the stunning scenery of this lake while fishing. The information is that the fish in this lake can be fished, but remember to protect the water environment and its surroundings safely. At that time, I took the Sembalun Trail for departure, and when descending, I chose the Torean Trail.

6. Mount Kerinci - 3,805 Meters Above Sea Level

The highest mountain on the roof of Sumatra. It is also the highest volcano in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The hill, home to the Sumatran rhino and Sumatran tiger, is managed by the Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS), a combined national park of 17 protected forests in Sumatra. Thanks to its natural beauty, TNKS entered 1 of 3 national parks with the title Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra from UNESCO in 2004.

Mount Kerinci is a stratovolcano (cone-shaped volcano) still active today. Located on the border of Jambi and West Sumatra provinces, the mountain can be visited through Kersik Tuo and Solok.

In 2014, I visited the mountain, which is also known as Puncak Indrapura or Gunung Gadang. There were not so many climbers at that time, and the path was quite clear. I almost didn't reach the summit because a friend got hypo on the way to the top. We chose to go down to help him. But God said otherwise. Finally, I was able to reach the top with three other friends, thanks to the help of other climbers.

7. Mount Cartenz - 4,884 Meters Above Sea Level

Mount Cartenz is also known as Puncak Jayawijaya Mountain or Cartenz's Pyramid or Jaya Peak, is the highest mountain in Oceania. It is the highest mountain in Papua and Indonesia and is included in the list of the highest mountain peaks in the world. Wow, that's cool. There are two climbing routes to choose from, the Ilaga route and the Sugapa route.

Mount Jaya Wijaya is the only mountain in Indonesia covered with snow. Although the snow recedes or decreases reportedly every year, BMKG estimates that it will disappear in 2025 if climate change is not mitigated immediately.

By the way, the costs incurred to climb this mountain are indeed the most expensive among other Indonesian seven-summit mountains. The price can reach hundreds of millions depending on which route is taken. So, you must save up first if you want to see Indonesia's snow mountains.
