Sambori Traditional Village is a village located in the highlands. It is located on the slopes of Mount Lambitu, at an altitude of about 800 meters above sea level. The residents of Bima Regency usually refer to Sambori Village as Dou Donggo Ele, which means the people of Sambori.

Sambori Traditional Village is inhabited by the indigenous people of Bima, especially the Dou Donggo Ele tribe, who live on the slopes of Mount Lambitu. They are known for their simple lifestyle and closeness to nature.
Their traditional houses, called Uma Lengge, have a unique structure with four floors. The ground floor for livestock, the first floor for receiving guests and traditional ceremonies, the second floor for sleeping and cooking, and the third floor for storing agricultural products such as rice and tubers.
I visited the cultural tourist destination of Sambori Traditional Village in Bima City when I was returning from climbing Mount Tambora. We were off-roading on our way to Labuan Bajo City. In the middle of the trip, we also visited several tourist destinations that we passed by. One of them was the Sambori Traditional Village. When we visited this traditional village, several houses were under construction.
How to Get to Sambori Traditional Village
To reach Sambori Village from Bima City, visitors can take a one-hour drive by motorcycle or car. The road to the village is winding and uphill, but the beautiful natural scenery will spoil your eyes. Upon arriving at the village, visitors will be greeted with a cool atmosphere and a thin fog that envelops the area.
Cultural Traditions in Sambori Traditional Village
Sambori Village offers a variety of interesting tourist attractions, including:
- Uma Lengge is a traditional Bima tribal house that symbolizes the culture and history of the village.
- The Tapa Gala tradition involves welcoming guests by holding them with bamboo, which is then cut as a symbol of respect and togetherness.
- Arugele Dance is a traditional dance performed during planting or harvesting, usually accompanied by traditional songs.
- Kalero Dance is a ceremony to honour ancestors' spirits and pray for descendants' safety.
- Belaleha is a traditional ceremony held during circumcision or wedding ceremonies.
- Traditional Crafts. The people of Sambori are skilled in making handicrafts such as woven pandan leaves, traditional Sadopa sandals from forest wood, and kitchen utensils from natural materials such as coconut shells and gourds.

When we visited this traditional village, our driver, who was familiar with the area, guided us. Upon arriving at Sambori Traditional Village, we were welcomed directly by the traditional leader, who happened to be present at his traditional house at the time. We made a voluntary donation to the village treasury.

- Bring cash because there are no ATMs in this village to pay for the entrance ticket.
